Yard Sales, Baby.

Between Reed working on Saturdays and the weather, I haven’t been out and about too often in my pursuit of yard sale treasure.

The entertainment center for Parker’s room is (finally) done.

It was a lot of work.

A whole lot.

Reed scrounged some wood to make another shelf for this unit.

I’m very pleased with how it turned out.

The other piece I finished off however wasn’t such fun.

If something could go wrong with this beast, it did.

Several times.

I can’t tell you how many times I thought of just grabbing the sledge hammer and ending my frustration with this dresser.

Like when I searched that garage high and low looking for one of the wooden drawer pulls I had just sanded and painted.

No matter how long I looked I couldn’t find it.

But the mystery was solved when I backed out of my garage and ran over it.

Needless to say, I’ll be looking for some updated drawer pulls.

Some days….

I was so excited when I first saw it because it was the PERFECT size. Perfect, I tell you. I originally thought I would sand it down and then just re-stain it.

Unfortunately when I got down with the sander I discovered that there had been some significant water damage done to this 90 year old piece.

One side of this sucker is about 90% wood filler.

Bummer.

So paint it was.

Spray paint.

I decided to spray all the sides and then just stain the top.

It has a ton character.

At least that’s what I tell myself each time I notice yet another spot that I mucked up on.

sigh.

Did I mention that this little side dresser was at least the totally perfect size?

uh. yeah.

The room isn’t finished yet. We decided to keep the window box. Reed has promised his very best promise that he will get the top of that done this summer. Then my Mom will make some cushions for the top.

The 14 year old and I hit a few yard sales last Saturday. I’m specifically looking for a few things to use in my bathrooms that we hope to repaint this summer.

A whopping $5.00 for the trio.

The price tag on the biggest candle holder alone was 29.99.

The tall candle holder and the oval basket thing will receive a coat of oil rubbed bronze spray paint to match my guest bathroom. I can’t wait!

This will make it’s home in my master bathroom. It was a dollar. It’s a gorgeous shade of sea blue.

You know, before BP came and ruined it all.

The picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s also much bigger in real life than what it looks here.

But I think the best deal of the day was this big box of envelopes (from Xpedex) set me back only $.50.

Fifty pennies.

Can I get a WOOT!?

Even though I swore after the last yard sale we had that I would never do another one, guess what?

We are planning one for this month.

Cause some of us never seem to learn.

heh.

Actually, one of Parker’s blog readers and her son just stopped by today with a literal truck load of stuff to add to our yard sale.

Reallllly great stuff.

We are hoping to bring in enough to purchase Parker a nifty sort of air purifier to hopefully help with Parker’s lung issues.

Yup. We are still dealing with those. Along with trying to get into our pulmo sometime before Christmas.

But that is a post for a different day.

Before you leave though, how about sharing YOUR best yard sale hosting ideas?

I don’t do garage sales — instead I like to bless others. My girls are catching on :-) If we lived closer, I have a bunch of stuff that I coud bless your sale with.

When I have time, do I like going to sales.

    • Janet,

I’d sworn off yard sales myself. I’ve been either donating or gifting things that I no use.

I guess this is one of those ‘never say never’ moments. :)
