I see you got an animals theme going on. My kids love to read as well. When my oldest was born, i started a collection of Golden Books for her, I found most of them in second hand shops for less than 50cents. She now has over 50. My kids go to the library once a week so our books are constantly rotated, our favorites ones right now are ones about cats or flowers or ponies.

Cameron and I are still into the big, fat-paged picture books. But you’ve given me some great ideas. I couldn’t agree with you more about teaching a child to love books. It’s more than half the battle won when they start school. A child who loves books and loves to read is going to do a lot, lot better in school than one who was never exposed to them. Every single member of my family reads voraciously. I love it that Parker loves books. I think every child would if only they were given the opportunity.

  15. My kids always loved books that rhyme. They also loved When You Give a Mouse a Cookie and now there are so many more…the Berenstein Bears. Gosh I use to have a LONG list – for boys and girls. I know it’s still around here somewhere. If I find it I’ll pass it on. It has been years since I homeschooled and haven’t read to a little one is many years but I am preparing for my granddaughter. I am so thankful I kept so many books although they are in boxes until my book shelves are done. I need to stain and polyurethene them when it warms up.

I love books, and so does Snuggle Bug! As I was cleaning up his room today, I realized we need to buy him another bookshelf for his books (he has 3 bookshelves in his room so far)!

Let’s see, some of his favorites:

    1) anything by Sandra Boyton
    2) Toes Are to Tickle
    3) Love You Forever by Robert Munch
    4) A Mother For Choco
    5) his children’s bible- he’ll ask for “bible” or “Jesus”
    6) A Bath for Rose
    7) anything by Mercer Mayer- Just Go to Bed is my favorite.
