Yesterday was a Halloween success story. After all the practicing, everything came together beautifully!
The Curly Girly and my Blue Eyed Girl took Parker all around the neighborhood. One trip around our circle is about a quarter of a mile. Parker, except for a short stretch, made it all the way around on his own!
What really touched my heart though was when my girls told me of several of our neighbors, anticipating the arrival of a little guy who can’t eat candy, had other fun treats at the ready.
Words can’t even describe the power of an amazing neighborhood who has you in their prayers and thoughts all year long.
On the topic of amazing moments, remember my post on the fun our family had at Cornbelly’s this year? Well, we were visited by a member of the Cornbelly’s team who brought Parker by a little surprise:
Parker and Elmo go waaaaay back. He uses the signs ‘red’ and ‘monster’ when he signs the name of his favorite peep. Thanks, Cornbelly’s for your thoughtfulness! You can find Cornbelly’s Facebook page here! Give them a LIKE and tell ‘em Parker sent ya! (pretty please?)
So, what Halloween successes did your kid with special needs experience! Parker and I would love to hear about them!

Thanks for sharing your hope=filled Halloween experience. Warms our hearts! Sending a beam of hope your way especially for Parker.

We actually left the driveway and went trick or treating – that was our success, given his response when the first group of kids came our way as we were starting out. We got A to wear his fire helmet part of the time – that’s taken all summer. He still doesn’t really “get” the whole concept, but maybe next year.

kadiera,
Yay! We didn’t push the astronaut helmet thingie. I was simply thrilled that Parker wore the costume! But he loves going out and especially with his sisters!
What an awesome neighborhood! I’m so thrilled it went well. Our victory was that I got to put a costume on him. But I could see in his eyes the look that said “What are you DOING to me??” That’s okay. I was thrilled to be able to do it. I had figured that this year it just wasn’t going to happen.

Aaron looked ADORABLE! Last year was the first year Parker was ever healthy enough to go Trick or Treating. xoxo

That’s so awesome that Parker was able to go out trick-or-treating! LOVE his costume, love how amazing your neighborhood is.
Good neighbors are even more important than family sometimes, as they’re the ones who are always around to look out for you.
This post made me so happy! We live in an amazing neighborhood too and it makes all the difference!

I just finished a 2-part post about Ash’s Halloween, tonight. For all our success, though, reading the story of Parker’s Halloween warms my heart even more. Thank you for sharing this, and blessings and prayers to your family…and ALL those who hold them dear!
