The Goal

The goal of PrayingforParker.com:

When I first began blogging my goal was to show that a kid with special needs is first and foremost a kid.

With hopes.

And dreams.

Likes

And dislikes.

But most of all that a kid with special needs has great potential and leads a life very much worth living.

I want to show the world our love for Parker, extra chromosome and all.

We are truly “Raising a Special Needs Kid in a Typical World”

This blog is a collection of  real life experiences in raising a medically fragile kid with special needs in a world where typical seems to be the ruling force.

Some of the topics discussed on this blog include:

  • The Joys and Fears of Being a Special Needs Parent
  • Advocacy: Putting on your army boots and going into battle for your kid.  Whether it’s with a school district that wants to keep your child excluded, local legislative leaders who want to balance the budget on your kid’s life, or bringing awareness to the harm done by the r-word.  You have a concern?  Let’s talk.
  • Family: I have six kids.  What can I say? And, yes, we do know what caused it.  Unfortunately, by the time we figured it out it was too late.  We were hooked.  heh.
  • Frugality: Kids with special needs (especially the medically fragile kind) can be expensive.  Selling everything and almost losing your home expensive.  Yard sales, gardening, cooking from scratch, swagbucks, re-purposing, utilizing a special needs underground, these are all strategies we can employ to help keep a roof over our heads while keeping our kid alive too.

PrayingforParker.com is  a place where living, loving and learning are celebrated.

I hope you’ll join us.
