The Colostomy Is Closed

Usually when we set up shop in a new hospital room one of the first things I do is set up an ostomy bag cleaning station. I set up my own red plastic cups from home. Next to the cups I set a 60 cc syringe. The final item is a black zippered bag containing ostomy bags, stomahesive, scissors, an ink pen and then template to use to cut the perfect sized opening in the ostomy bag.

Today I didn’t have to do that.

As a matter of fact, Reed and I are going to toast this day over Dr. Peppers as I throw the zippered black bag in the garbage.

While our Brave Hero rests in a Nubain induced slumber.

They have just opened up a pod on the third floor of PCMC just for trached kids. Which means that we don’t have to be in the PICU. All the nurses are trach trained and know how to set up vents, etc.

Parker’s heartrate is pretty high. Much higher than normal. His O2 needs are much higher too. Hopefully those issues will resolve with time.

Kids with PH have a harder time with surgeries and the recovery after wards.

Our luck is holding out so far. Hopefully it will continue.
