It’s been a week. Or two. And Busy has been the on going theme.
I read other blogs where slowing down and enjoying life seems to be not only the theme, but a goal achieved.
I wish they would share their secret of accomplishing a slow and steady pace. I’m truly at a loss as to how to make that a reality here at the home of our Brave Hero.
I have been able to settle on Oak Meadow’s curriculum for Parker as well as some enrichment support via Handwriting Without Tears and the books below. One book I am still waiting on is Teach Me To Do It Myself.
I found OM used for a reasonable price, if you can assign the word reasonable to the price of ready made curriculum. Let’s just say it was way, way, way below retail and even then I had to save my sheckles to afford it.
Our friend Kei is going to send us her no longer needed Handwriting Without Tears preK/K materials. I’ve offered Kei and her family a free dinner the next time she visits Utah. I hope she takes us up on it.
I plan on using these items for two years instead of only one. The first year will be our base building year. The second year more intense and IEP oriented. Having spent so much time in the hospital the last few months (and first three years) and the recovery afterwards has been us behind. So I intend to school year round beginning next month and going with our own rhythms.
Finally, on the 28th my Mom and I are taking advantage of a FREE Out of the Box (eProReading) workshop being held locally. Cause me and free are way close don’tcha know. Plus, I’ve only heard excellent things about this early reading program.
Speaking of working within a child’s own rhythm, guess who is now up to four ‘all by himself’ steps.
Yup. It’s pretty darn exciting.
We inherited some much needed, and like new mattresses along with some vintage, and in perfect condition Lane bedroom furniture.
Everyone kept asking Reed why I chose the ‘old’ stuff over the new stuff. HELLO! Vintage. Perfect condition LANE furniture. Does that not explain it all? The stuff is gorgeous. If I had the room I’d transform the dresser into a sideboard upstairs. It is that yummy.
I may not be able to afford the good stuff. But I can always be counted on to pick it out for you.
Just sayin’.

Hooray for walking! Hooray for reading! Hooray for free furniture!
You are sounding good today, Tammy. I hope that means things are going better and stress level is heading down. Sending much love and hugs. xoxo

Woohoo! for starting to walk! He looks GREAT standing!
I have not read your blog from the beginning, but I think that is the first time I’ve seen a photo of him fully dressed. Just saying.
HWT is a very good program. I like. (Written by an OT.) Ahem.
Busy is good – no? Busy is normal – no? We learn to live busy, I think. Unlearning is very hard.
look at him standing there like such a big boy! woo whoo!
i have the book writting without tears. we used it years ago to re teach our oldest handwriting. also, debra, hopes mom uses out of the box… you should contact her!
Way to go Parker!
That sounds wonderful. And four steps! Wonderful!
Yayyy – sounds like a great curriculum. I have the ereading pro program – well – from when it was called Out of the Box reading. I like it – but it does have some things that I would change – and – you can, because you make it all yourself, really….. Anyway – I hope you have a great time at the workshop
WTG Parker!!!
And – if you figure out how to slow things down, let me know – I’m game to try!
All great, great news!
(and, when you figure out that slowing down thing, could ya clue me in? thanks.)
Oh how exciting for Parker starting to walk!!! That is awesome, and so cool!!!
And, yes, I hear ya on life being busy!! Just when we thought our life was starting to “slow down” (however that happens in a family of 13
) after moving from CA to OK 7 months ago, something else comes up. Never a dull moment

Hi!
You do have great taste! I have the same Lane bedroom set and it rocks! It’s also worth a penny or two – the dresser just sold for more than $600 and the side tables for over $400 on ebay. What furniture nowadays actually appreciates in worth? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250410871422
