your child pulls his 2 day old trach………..OUT.
I swear I aged 10 years in 20 seconds.
It’s been the talk of the PICU. Yup, once again Parker provided the energy rush needed to light up about 12 different medical professionals.
They got the trach back in. They have removed the NO-NO’s and have strapped Parker’s arms to the crib. It sounds mean, but trust me it is nicer than what he went through last night.
Parker has been much more relaxed. It looks like his IV was totally shot and while they were pushing in enough meds to put an elephant to sleep, none of them were getting to a place where Parker could actually benefit from them. They now have him on only a half dose of Morphine. He went med free from about midnight to 8 a.m. this morning.
We also have found out that Parker has been doing some MAJOR silent aspirating. They pulled out all kinds of gunk from his lungs during his lung washings. Reflux and apirating are the stuff that severe pulmonary hypertension is made of.
Right now they have Parker on a trach vent. It is only providing minimal pressure to make his getting a deep breath easier. They tried to wean him to only a trach mask, but no go. The RT says that it is normal for a child with a new trach to need several trach mask trials before they get the hang of breathing through the trach on their own.
We can’t be released to the floor until Parker can spend 24 hours only needing the trach mask. We can’t go home until we have shown that we can take care of Parker and his trach for 24 hours on the floor.
We really, really, really want to go home.
Could we change our prayer request to helping Parker wean off the trach vent to the trach mask and be able to learn how to properly swallow? Your prayers are felt and make an amazing difference.
Tomorrow I get to change Parker’s trach out to a new one all by myself.
Uh……..you may want to say a prayer that I don’t wind up passing out before I get it replaced properly.
Trach care isn’t for the faint of heart or spirit. But if Parker can make it through this experence with such courage and strength surely I can learn from him and do the same.

I remember someone asking me one time “How do you do it?” Referring to my child with a disability… and I thought, “What do you mean? You love your kids… I love mine. It’s as simple as that.” Can I just tell you how your love shines for your little boy? He is a lucky little boy to have you for his mom.
Oh, honey. You and Miss Clairol are going to become best friends after all the gray hairs this is giving you!! As always, Parker has big prayers coming from us. Thanks for giving us specifics to focus on – and we’ll send some calming prayers your way, too.

I am so impressed that Parker takes after his strong mommy! Yeah, he probably shouldn’t have pulled the trach out, but wow, way to go Parker! Now, sending you calming vibes as you learn how to maneuver the trach yourself.
Hugs from Francine & Sofia
Oh Tammy…..You and your sweet little guy have been in my thoughts and prayers non-stop. Even Emma Sage stops often and glasps her hands together in prayer and asks GOD to watch over her friend Parker.
As always, I am in awe of your spirit….your determination and your incrdible power as a Mother to your little boy.
Parker……we are praying real hard that you get to the next step real soon, as Mommy really wants her little boy to be out of the hospital and back home with his family.
All of our love…and prayers.
Tara Marie & Emma Sage and family.
Praying for Holy Spirit guts and knowledge for you. Parker will be fine.
Oh my! How frightening. My prayers are with you!
Great job guys! Glad to read the medication issue has been resolved. You will do great changing the trach tube… Your hands will be guided by Him. God Bless you all.
WOW what a spirited little man you have there – frankly I believe in my heart that’s a GOOD thing – however right now, it’s gotta be so hard! Your in my prayers – it’s good that he’s doing better, but man how scary!
Lots of prayers for BOTH you and Parker – heck for your WHOLE family!
Oh my goodness! As scary as it must have been, I can’t help but see Parker’s strength and determination shining through. He obviously gets those traits from his mommy!
I am so glad that his pain is under control. That is a major prayer answered and there will be more prayers answered soon I do believe. I do pray that you can relax and rest some. Hug that sweet boy of ours and tell him his buddy prays with me every night for him.
