I can relate to your rage. In fact, today my brother had to go to the hospital to be tested and treated for a digestional illness which was caused by Prilosec, the medicine that the insurance company insisted he switch to because it was cheaper. He had already tried it years earlier, and my mom TOLD the company that it would make him sick as a dog, but they insisted that he switch anyway.
Subsequently: diarrhea=dehydration=severe kidney strain. If only there were a way to prove it 100% conclusively and sue the snot out of those scum-suckers.
I am SO sorry for what you and precious Paker are going through.
Oh Tammy, I wish I had something profound to say, something to make it all better, thousands of dollars to send you! I’m glad Parker has this new cpap approved, even if only for a month…do you think if they see the positive results from this one they’ll approve it indefinitely? I’m so sorry for all the frustrations.
I’m not sure how I found you, but I’ve been reading your story for a few days. I just have a comment about insurance:
My daughter was born with a club foot. The treatment involved weekly casting, followed by surgery, ortho shoes and ortho cast. The insurance paid for each and EVERY SINGLE cast without one complaint. They refused to pay for her ortho shoes and paid very, very, very, very little of her ortho brace. I don’t get the logic. However, the single most frustrating thing during the ENTIRE treatment was the surgery. Because our family has relatively good health insurance (I’m a teacher, so I have state health care with = good insurance), I was REQUIRED to pay my deductible AND my co-pay prior to her surgery. The day I took my tiny little 8 week old for pre-op, I was told I had to fork over several hundred dollars PRIOR to the surgery! I left the hospital fuming. What in the world do families who don’t have good health insurance do? What do families who have more financial struggles do? We were literally punished because we have good health insurance. Insurance is going to screw itself out of business. Pardon my very un-Christian like attitude.
Good luck with the new machine. I hope Parker perks up quickly and begins to feel better very soon.
Im praying for your little guy! Im glad at least he got his new machine, i pray it improves how he feels, and the insurance company has no choice but to let you keep it.
Happy Mother’s Day!
That’s so frustrating. I’m so sorry for your worries and what you have to go through.
I’ve been there and done that – all the fighting to get something partially covered something that WIC kids get for free. Nothing like being punished by the state for earning money.
I’m sorry you are having this struggle. May you walk in the favor of God and may He prove to be your Jehovah Jireh over and over again.
I’m so sorry you’re having to go through all of this, Tammy…
♥
(Happy Mother’s Day!)
Tammy, I’m praying earnestly for darling Parker…and for you. You deserve to love, nurture and care for your child without hassle from bureaucracy. I have dealt with this issue in the past. I realize the life sustaining urgency with which you are faced. God bless and hold Parker and your entire family.
About the fund raiser…is there anything via web, blog, email, anything that I could do to help?
I tried to get the HTML for the Stephanie Smith concert button, but it doesn’t work when I paste it to my blog. Nothing shows. Just letting you know in the event it isn’t just my lack of technical skills causing the problem.
I am so sorry you are having to go through all of the insurance garbage. I am glad that Parker at least can get some relief in the short term. If He shows great improvement with its use will they then approve it for permanent? Won’t his labs even show improvement because he is resting better.?? I don’t know It makes me crazy about all of this insurance/doctors/bureaucratic garbage! I have put Mr. Parker on our prayer list at church and let us know when his heart cath is scheduled so we can cover him in prayer…
Peace Be With You

For the first time in my life, I’m getting a big taste of what it’s like to have a dangerously ill child. No matter what we do, we can’t get Cameron’s blood sugar under control and he’s on his way to the pediatrician again right now. I cannot imagine factoring a horrible insurance company like yours into this scary situation.
It’s infuriating, the whole thing about illegal aliens getter better medical services than Parker gets. Honestly, I’d be writing to Bill O’Reilly. President Bush. Queen Elizabeth. Everyone! It’s just not right.
Tammy, I don’t know how you stand it. You must be Superwoman. I’m furious, and I bet I don’t even know the half of it.
I sure hope Parker starts feeling better soon.
How incredibly frustrating for you Tammy. It just makes me so mad that you have to deal with all of this kind of stuff, instead of just focusing on Parker and your family. I hope he’s feeling better soon and the next round of tests come out better. Good idea for having a concert!
Tammy – about promotion, here you go. Pick a newspaper reporter at the DesNews or Tribune who has done work you like and email them with your story, including how you feel about immigration. Send pics and ask them if they are interested in your story. You can also contact channel 4 Good Things Utah and KSL Studio 5. See if you can’t schedule Ally Mckay on Channel 2 to do a morning segment and also Big Buddah on Fox 13 (be sure that Stephanie can be there to sing for any TV gigs you get.) Check out your local newspapers, too, including the small community papers. Invite them to the concert, papers are always looking for warm fuzzy photos and our kids provide them by the boatloads. I know, some of you are thinking that I’m exploiting our kids. But when we’re trying to get the word out about Ds, DSPD services (or utter lack therof), the irony that middle income families are losing the battle in the cost of healthcare, etc. then we need to put our kids in the spotlight to show just what we’re going through.
Ask you local middle and high school service clubs it they would be willing to make and put up posters around town. Get them to promote the concert among their friends. Posters can be posted with permission at libraries, stores, community centers.
Send email invites. That is just the start. I hope I gave you the push you asked for.
So sorry to read about this. Keep your faith and hopes up.
Mike
