How The System Works

Today Parker and I are at 5 Minutes For Special Needs talking about issues we are going to be closely following in the 2008 elections.

And how we hope for a better working system in our home state. Cause the system in place right now…..sucks.

Come on over and share some comment love, won’t ya?

Pretty please?

I love your post. It hit home so hard since yesterday we went down for our meeting with Social Security and didn’t even make it past the financial portion before we were denied. Even though I work and make more than poverty level and have private insurance, it is hard to make ends meet when you are taking care of a special needs child. Still waiting to hear back from DSPD, but I am not holding my breath on that one either.

    Got to love this state.

I don’t know what state you are in and I know you have probably tried everything at this point. My daughter is fortunate enough to have medicaid because she is adopted and I also carry her on my insurance through my job. When she got her trach a year ago, that automatically qualified her for a medicaid technology waiver, which covers nursing care (required for her to attend school and me to work – I have to work because I’m a single mom). Instead of straight medicaid – which they try to say is income based – have you tried for a medicaid waiver slot? Your state may use different language but that’s the terminology in Virginia. Medicaid and social security are known for just automatically denying most applicants and then seeing who has the stamina to get through the appeal process! As if life isn’t hard enough . . . hang in there! Parker is a kid worth fighting for and you are the perfect mom for him!
