Garlic, Coupons, and Prayers

Yesterday Reed and I harvested a ton of garlic.  Except we thought it was going to be shallots that we dug up.   Looks as though I  need to start keeping a garden journal.   Obviously my memory isn’t the steel trap it used to be.  Being the mother of a medically fragile child with special needs insures the evaporation of brain cells at an alarming rate.

I’ve been trying to restock our rather depleted pantry.  I used to be able to use coupons to keep my grocery budget low.  But then Reed decided that the money I was spending on multiple Sunday newspapers (for the coupons) could best be used elsewhere.

Like trying to keep Parker alive.

I’ve looked at buying coupons on Ebay, but by the time they get here the sale I needed them for is over.  Not to mention that the price for coupons has risen.  It now usually costs .99 cents to mail a few coupons parcel post.  Which is why they don’t usually get here until after the sale I need them for is over.

So, I was wondering.  Those of you local to me who read Parker’s blog and don’t use your Sunday coupons…..could we?   We could even pick them up from you.  Unless you want to stop by for a visit.    Think of the space it would save you in your recycling bins!

I know my pantry would thank you too.

I know how to be an amazing shopper.  But I gotta have the coupons to accomplish the goal.

And if any of you have any grand ideas as to how to secure a cheap stash of coupons, let me know in the comment section, would ya?

In closing, Parker has an EKG on Tuesday.  The freaking out has officially begun.  I’m hoping you prayers will too.  Prayers specifically asking that Tuesday’s results show either no change from the last EKG, or an improvement.

Cause I don’t think my heart could handle his pulmonary hypertension getting worse.

I have heard that there are websites where you can get and print off only the coupons you need — unfortunately I am not 100% where they all are BUT I am trying to start out on couponmom.com and alcoupons.blogspot.com (and some of the coupons are elctronic and not paper saving printing)!

Good luck I am sure you are better at this than me! I need to learn more!

Hi–I have grocery coupons that you can print out on my site–they should be useful for any grocery store– what you do is click on the widget in the sidebar and then put your zipcode in and coupons that are available in your area are there. my site is http://www.answersformoms.org I probably don’t live near you (greensboro nc) but if i do let me know and i will try to get you some from our neighbors. also will pray for parker.

    Hey girlie…

Phew thought your blog went wonky or something…Got a post on my dashboard from you 3 days ago only it wouldn’t link…Was WEIRD….Got to read all about cloth diapers and then POOF didn’t get to finish not that we use them for the booty…We do use them in fact have around 6 dozen now for my little drooooooooool bucket ;)

Coupons girlie! OK first not sure if you know bout this or not but blueberry eyes has a freebie friday…I get goodies from that every week including freebie coupons….

The Ones I can remember was coupons for a package of free OM hot dogs and Hunts ketchup course I know thats not gonna even come close to filling your pantry but those little freebies are adding up and turning out to be quite helpful like the several boxes of tampons I’ve been getting Ahem… :0)

The coffee I don’t even drink but OH MY has it ever kept my nurses in yummy flavored coffees and we CAN NOT forget the boxes of Cereal so far strawberry and vanilla/honey with matching breakfast bars for each AND drink mixes…YAY ME! ;)

We’ve gotten Cute little DVD movies from Fisher Price and liquid shower soap and I must say the ad for the Gel kept me coming back for more and more except I kept getting this darn error saying I already head my sample…Little did they know I could care less bout that sample but was peekin at that fella in the advertisement! LOL

So much more I can’t even think of right now but let me see if I can get to the point on the coupons….I get distracted soo easily ;)

Our local library keeps a basket back near the computers/work tables ….There are acutally several baskets STUFFED full of coupons from every paper of the week including Sunday…..You can take all you want for FREE…just takes some going through….Not sure if this is just a “local thing” OR maybe all libraries do it? They also add coupons from magazines and those that are dated way out too…

    Worth a check!

    Talk soon… :0)

  4. Ok, you have to tell me how they see pulmonary hypertension in an EKG? Because I would rather have that than an echo. I hate that goey mess they make, and an ekg is so much faster.

I am typing this straight from FAmily Circle Sept 2009 issue, which I just read about 20 mins ago!
*sites like cellfire.com send coupons you can have scanned at the checkout directly to cell phones or mobile devices
*redplum.com lets you search for discounts by entering your zip code, items you want to buy or your favorite store
*If you don’t see coupons for your favorite brand, call the manufacturer directly (look for 800 number)
They have a few other tips too like use your loyalty card at supermarket, start a weekly coupon sway with friends or neighbors and don’t ever pay for shipping. There are free delivery codes for practically every site. Check out freeshipping.org

This may sound odd, but you might want to join your local Freecycle group. I have seen coupons offered on there sometimes, and you can post for things you want, which may help you make a contact who is willing to give them to you on a regular basis. You would go to freecycle.org and search for your local group to join.

    Good luck!

One friend of ours here was a coupon fanatic when she was unemployed. She called the newspaper company directly, and asked for a discount on the papers left at the end of the day…

She also asked neighbors/friends/family for coupons they weren’t using.

  9. Awesome Mom says:

My parents stopped getting the paper otherwise I would totally make them give you the coupons from then. Good luck with the EKG!

Those pictures make me wish I’d planted garlic this year! Is it too late?
I asked around my neighborhood to see who gets the Sunday paper and if they use the coupons. (Our local paper doesn’t have the good coupons. We have to buy the big city paper to get them.) I have one neighbor who saves them for me. My mom and mil give me what they don’t use. I also found a grocery store that has the Sunday paper for 1/2 off, but I usually don’t make a special trip to get just a paper.

If you want to send me your home mail address, I would be happy to mail you mine from 2 Sunday papers. Although I live in the Chicago area, a few are limited to this area, but the majority are not. I only use a few of them, so otherwise they just go into the ‘church’s ‘recycling for $$ program.

  17. Nina says:

make sure you check out redplum.com
you put in your zip code and it shows all local / printable coupons

  18. Kay says:

Isn’t shortcuts.com a coupon site? I think so, but if you type it in and go to a porn site, it isn’t my fault okay :) hee hee

I don’t get newspapers or I will mail you all the coupons.

  19. Emailed you, but wanted to make certain you knew that the GA crew is praying for good results as well as an uneventful process.

    Love your new blog design.

    Lub you guys. ox

I came across your site . I will pray for Parker. The Lord is good, generous and always listens to those who pray with sincerity. I have a neice who also has down syndrome . she must be around 28 years old now. she cannot speak very well, she mumbles most of the time, but she is lovable !!! am sure Parker is a lovely child too!
You take care, Tammy. Parker needs you. I send a big, warm hug to you both !! :)

  22. UGGHH!!! I still cant view pics :(
I wish we lived closer to each other, I would give you my coupons!!

I don’t know if this is just a local thing or what, but the Walgreens near me gives out FREE newspapers every Sunday.

    Hope all went well today.

  26. Kyooty says:

Continued prayers. sorry I’m not local for the coupons. I thought there were “free” websites with coupons that you just print out at home?

I feel you on the coupon thing. Most of the stores around me won’t take printed coupons, so that leaves me with the few I can get from the papers or what I can get from friends, ebay, or whereever. But since most of my family lives back east, or in Southern California, it can take a while for them to get to me.

I have found that there are many many people on my local freecycle that are willing to give up coupons, and those that I don’t use, I just offer back to the group.
