Daring Young Man In His Flying Jumperoo

This jumperoo is one of my all time best purchases. Parker loves this thing. Even when he was so small that I had to put towels in the bottom and 2 phone books underneath it so that his feet could touch something, he has loved this.

Parker can make this puppy soar!

And while I have your attention. I need to pick your brains again. One of Parker’s new OT goals is to stack at least 10 blocks. Which doesn’t sound too bad until you discover how much Parker HATES to stack blocks. Knock them over? Groovy! Stack them back up? Not so much.

The blocks we have are simply too small to stack up 10 high. But look everywhere though I have, all I can find are the smaller, painted variety of blocks. I KNOW that when my kids were younger we had some buffed, but otherwise unfinished blocks that were pretty substantial in size and made stacking much simpler.

So if anyone knows where some of these sort of blocks could be found. Please let me know. Cause….. me and Parker…. we got some stacking to do!

There is a store call Tutoring Toy in Foothill Village in Salt Lake. My son has blocks from there that are the simple wooden kind, perfect for building roadways and castles. If he didn’t love them so much, I would send them to you. But he is still very much in the block building mode.

Tristan never liked building blocks until I got him these.

They are kinda like lego cause they stick together. Not sure if it is what you had in mind but They can stack quite high without falling (unless they are knocked down lol) Until recently Tristan couldn’t (shouldn’t say couldn’t he wouldn’t) stack higher than 3. Come on knocking them down is so much more fun!

  5. Oh Parker! You look like you are having so much fun! Why cant they make a jumparoo for adults? We have a trampoline but yours looks much more fun! You are so adorable! I just love it when your sweet mommy posts pictures of you!

We have these nesting cups that double as stacking cups when you turn them over. They have this little lip on them so they stay in place pretty good. Nathanael really likes them.

BTW, I don’t remember your son’s name (the one with Parker playing a game system)? But when you look at that last picture of Parker in the Jumparoo he looks JUST like his big brother!

:) He’s really grown since he got that trach…does a heart good! (literally)!!!

  7. Melissa says:

We did the nesting cups too… but it sounds like you’ve got a pretty good list of ideas from the others for blocks! My only other suggestion is to find the names of some of the blocks and then look on ebay. What can I say? I’m a bargain kind of girl ;)

  8. Johanna says:

What you want are classic unit blocks such as the ones they use in preschool programs. For a splurge and to have them available for your grandchildren look for Community Playthings. For less expensive ones your best bet is discountschoolsupply.com

  9. Glenda says:

We gave up and made our own blocks! Now we have a whole big basket full and the kids love ‘em. You seem to have some good suggestions there tho. Hope you find the perfect ones!

  10. Gina says:

I second Glenda, because that was my first thought! Go to the wood gettin’ place (Lowes, Home Depot, whatever Nascar guy you scream for…Tony Stewart here :) . Buy a 1×1 (NOT treated), get them to cut it into 1 inch segments. If you don’t wanna pay for the extra cuts, then go home and do it yourself (provided you have the equipment). Sand them all down, and then you have a bunch of 1 inch square blocks for less than $5 (probably more like $3). If you want to clean them, put them in hot water with a little bleach, so it gets all the funk off. Of course, did ya think you were gonna get a link from the frugal chick? lol.

He looks so cute in that! I bet he has a ball bouncing high! I can’t help with the blocks. I could never get my son to stack more than three before he knocked them down!

  12. Jenn says:

There’s an AWESOME guy on Hyena Cart – he build a train, and cars for Zachary for Christmas – he also made some blocks for a friend of mine. He’s AWESOME and has GREAT customer service, just email him, his prices are also wonderful – http://hyenacart.com/growwiththegraintoys/ his name is Brett and he uses all natural products! :)

Good luck, and LOVE LOVE the pictures! :D

Those nesting blocks are great. Here is a link to a set similar to the ones we have, and my son loves them:

He sure does look like he has having fun in his jumparoo.

Ha ha – I could have written your post for a few years Tammy! We bought every stacking toy imaginable for Brady :) We started with bigger and moved down to smaller, and even though Brady has little hands and poor fine motor coordination, that is what worked for us, from blocks to snap beads, to stringing beads (which he totally hates, but will do big ones wooden ones).

We started with shoe boxes, then moved down to the Fisher Price ones – discovery blocks, I think they’re called. To the little wooden ones.

Not sure if that helps – but hey – it’s a start :) And – knocking them down is ALWAYS more fun than building them up!

I noticed in the gift shop at PCMC they had some light weight, textured, foam blocks that were good sized, and as soon as I saw them, I thought of you!
He looks so cute in the jumper.

  16. PAT JONES says:

    Hello,
I just read your need for blocks. I have a set of blocks I want to send you. They are made out of heavy cardboard and the inside is hollow so you could place
stuffed animals in them shen you are not stacking them. They are very colorful and made out of heavy cardboard and paper. Really charming. Every child that comes to our house loves them. I want you and Parker to have them. Please email me with your information if you will allow me to send them to you.
Parker will be doing none stop stacking. I just know it. I admire you. You are a wonderful mother and I beleive anything is possible with love. Pat

  18. From reading comments I see that you have plenty of sources for blocks. So all I have to say is…

JUMP, PARKER, JUMP! And here’s a ox.
